EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION RECEIVES GENEROUS GIFT

 The Pierre Educational Foundation (PEF) has moved closer to their goal of building a $1,000,000 endowment base, thanks to a generous donation from the estate of a long-time supporter.

PEF was recently named as a beneficiary of the Gertrude Mueller estate and received a donation of over $240,000. PEF President Norm Lingle says the Mueller family has had a long-standing relationship with the Pierre Educational Foundation and the monies will be put to good use.

"We are very grateful to the Mueller family for these funds", said Norm Lingle, PEF President. "It is a tremendous gift the foundation will use to grow our endowment. The Muellers have always been very supportive of our organization and this donation is just another example of their generosity and commitment to education."

In 1998, Gertrude Mueller established the “James and Gertrude Mueller Scholarship” in honor of her late husband. This annual scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who was pursuing a degree in the medical field. Over the years, the scholarship has distributed over $36,000 to 14 different recipients all on their way to medical school. The most recent scholarship winner was Kayla Pochop, whose scholarship was in the amount of $3,250.00.

The recent estate gift to PEF will be put towards building the endowment, and the Mueller Scholarship will continue to be awarded every year to a graduating senior – just as the Mueller’s intended.

The Pierre Educational Foundation promotes the further educational development of the Pierre Public School District students, staff and graduates by the delivery of quality educational opportunities and resources. The Pierre Educational Foundation is a perpetual fund designated to support innovative / creative projects intended to enrich life-long learning, and dedicated to maintaining and enhancing the tradition of excellence in the Pierre Public Schools.
